A listing of Michigan’s continuing education requirements for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

HOURLY REQUIREMENTS FOR VETERINARIANS

45 hours every 3 years

 

35 hours may be obtained online

 

HOURLY REQUIREMENTS FOR VETERINARY TECHNICIANS

15 hours every 3 years

 

10 hours may be obtained online

SPECIFIC REQUIRED COURSES

Veterinarians – Of the required 45 hours:

30 hours must be Scientific in Nature

1 hour must be on the topic of Medical Records

1 hour must be on the topic of Veterinary Law and/or Federal or State Controlled Substance Law 

 

Individuals seeking a controlled substance license must have completed training in opioids and controlled substances awareness prior to obtaining a license. Controlled substance licensees, or individuals seeking a controlled substance license must complete training in opioids and controlled substance awareness only one time. Veterinary Technicians – Of the required 15 hours, 10 hours must be Scientific in Nature
